Ebtikar – Basata
Founded in 2017 by MTI and BPE Partners as a designated vehicle to invest in Egypt’s non-banking financial services sector, Ebtikar Holding for Financial Investments (“Ebtikar”) is one of Egypt’s largest electronic payments providers.
- In February 2021 and for the purpose of preparing for the listing of Ebtikar, a restructuring plan of its investments was executed by transferring the shares of Tamweel Holding for Investment S.A.E. , Tamweel Group of Companies and Basata microfinance from Ebtikar to Basata Financial Holding S.A.E. in a non-cash transaction on the Egyptian Stock Exchange.
- Ebtikar Platform consists of two leading e-payment and collection solution providers, namely Masary for Smart Payment Services (“Masary”) and TBE Egypt for Payment Solutions S.A.E (“Bee”) with c. 140,000 combined PoS terminals
- Masary and Bee, combined, represent the second largest player in the financial payments industry in Egypt.
- The Platform provides financial services to consumers and businesses by offering a convenient and reliable way to pay bills and purchase goods and services using multiple channels.
- Ebtikar signed a MoU with Vodafone Egypt in February 2021 and is currently in the process of finalizing a capital increase transaction to Vodafone for a 20% stake in each subsidiary. The partnership is expected to contribute in accelerating the growth of the two companies’ business volumes and market reach
- Vodafone Egypt will utilize its expertise, providing digital financial services and electronic wallets through Vodafone Cash services, to support in developing the services provided by both companies

Established in 2009, Masary is a pioneering technology company in the field of payment solutions. Masary has a strong presence in the Egyptian market through availing its services in more than 60,000 POS around Egypt and through its partnership with numerous service providers.
Basata microfinance was established in November 2017 with the purpose of providing microfinance for up to EGP 200,000. It operates using both digital and traditional channels to rapidly expand its reach across the country.
